Office of Continuing Medical Education

Welcome!
Welcome to ICMES: Inova CME System, your destination for continuing medical education at Inova Health System.

Since 2001, the Office of Continuing Medical Education has provided education to physicians and other healthcare practitioners. Credits were claimed by completing paper evaluations, filling out a sign-in sheet, or submitting half-sheets. Until now. You will now be able to claim credit, print certificates and transcripts and submit CME applications, at your convenience, all online.

Updates:

May 9, 2012 - Based on attendee feedback, the OCME has once again extended the amount of time attendees may login and claim credit. The timeframe to claim credit has been extended from 6 1/2 days (166 hours) post-activity to 30 days post-activity. Please note events do not "open" in ICMES until 15 minutes before completion of the activity dependent on whether the necessary documentation was completed by the department prior to the event.

New Director for the Office of Continuing Medical Education
ReinesDavid
The Office of Continuing Medical Education welcomes H. David Reines, MD, FACS, FCCS as its new Director, taking the reigns from Madeline Erario, MD, who directed the department for 6 years.

Dr. Reines was formerly the Clerkship Director in Surgery and Program Director for the Inova Fairfax Surgical Residency Program and remains the Vice Chair of Surgery. He is the author of over 100 peer reviewed articles on sepsis, infections, trauma, surgical education, and surgical safety, and serves on 3 editorial boards. He came to Inova from Boston, where he had been Chair of Surgery. Prior to that, Dr. Reines was chief of Trauma/Critical Care at Medical College of Virginia (now VCU) and Medical College of South Carolina. Dr. Reines has dedicated his professional career to academic surgery, subscribing to the theory of Dr. John Davis: Operate on 1,000 patients and you affect 1,000 patients, but teach 30 residents and you will affect 30,000 patients. Dr. Reines helped create the surgical residency program at Inova Fairfax .

He is a graduate of Cornell University (German History) and the University of Vermont College Of Medicine, where he completed his residency. In 2009, Dr. Reines bolstered his background in teaching and education by earning a Masters in Teaching Leadership from George Washington University. He is married to NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent, Nina Totenberg.
